Fortune, Courage, and Serenity

The Art of Dining Monologue

Lets get down to business, to defeat the judges.
So Jacquelyn,

You have been receiving a lot of favor lately. God really loves you. Not only are you going to the CTG workshop, you have 12.3 units at school, don't forget the .3 You also have a mother and father, and grandmother who care and support you. Your mother has planned the entire San Fransisco trip for your audition at Julliard. She was able to get a four star hotel for 1/5 of the price, and tickets for a train at 10-15% off. She is amazing, make sure you TELL her, you ungrateful daughter <3 I say this so that no one thinks I'm fucking crazy for doing this monologue.

Love, Jacquelyn

Anyways drum roll pleasssseee.........

Here is your first monologue to work on.

A Sign

"Dear Jackie,
We’re pleased to confirm your reservation for the workshop “A Shared Vision: Creating New Work through Ensemble Collaboration.”  We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!"

"You have been selected to participate as an ACTOR."

Dear Jacquelyn,

Today was not a good day for you. Nothing specifically caused it- but you tend to freak out. I know that you are scared about your auditions. Emphasis on the plural.

Today you asked God for a sign. You desperately needed a sign. He answered.

After bible study you looked at your email and lo and behold there was an email from Center Theatre Group. You were selected to partake in the Creating New Work through Ensemble Collaboration
with writer/director John Sinner!!! Congratulations!

You are one of nine actors, please feel proud and for God sakes gain some confidence!!!

Love always,
Jacquelyn

Game Plan

OK Jacquelyn huddle up... Here's the game plan!

* cue a screaming crowd of fans *

First off I know that you are going to be auditioning for your dream colleges next month... breathe!
Its OK, you most probably won't get in. THAT ISN'T THE END OF THE WORLD

Here's why. You have a game plan. When ever you start freaking out and hyperventilating read the game plan.

There are a few routes this can take you, they all lead to the same place. Both have their ups and downs.

1) You get in. I don't care if this is getting in to LAMDA or Julliard. This plan is the same thing for both.
  • You applied
  • You get accepted
  • Have fun, train, and network
  • The only reason you are getting a theater degree is so that you can use the name of your college
  • After you finish the 3-4 years and get your degree. YOU MUST FINISH THE COURSE!!!! Don't you dare waste those thousands of dollars.
  • Apply for loans, scholarships, any financial aid you can get your hands on.
  • This plan is going to be stressful and scary, but it could be worth it. Just never give up
2) You don't get in this time..... Now what? Cry yourself into smithereens. NO! Get off your ass, it wasn't meant to be this time.
  You have two options:

          a)  Get your degree (AA) at PCC, and try again right after.
          b)  Get your degree (AA) at PCC, transfer to a four year college.

Let me spell it out for you. Its alright. You can continue, this is not the end, far from it.

A)  Get your degree (AA) at PCC, and try again right after.
  • Finish and get your degree at PCC, you are almost there. Don't quit because your depressed. I don't have time for that.
  • Get multiple jobs. They should be focused in theater and serve you towards a goal. GET PAID THIS TIME!!!!!
  • Save that money. Portions go towards college, retirement, and recreational (a very small amount). Try not to spend, I know that that will be hard.
  • Get into dancing, do Zumba, or Salsa anything. Paint, draw! You will feel better about yourself.
  • Plan your auditions in advance. Save up- don't depend on your parents. Help them.
  • Practice for at least 3 months each monologue. That's a year.
  • If you can, sign up for self submitting websites and get some acting jobs through that. Do not burn your self out though. Practice your craft.
  • Audition again, this is going to be even scarier this second time, you feel like you have something to prove. You don't. Your were not accepted because you were not right for that years group. You did fine!
  • Relax
B)   Get your degree (AA) at PCC, transfer to a four year college.
  • Finish and get your degree at PCC, you are almost there. Don't quit because your depressed. I don't have time for that.
  • Get multiple jobs. They should be focused in theater and serve you towards a goal. GET PAID THIS TIME!!!!!
  • Save that money. Portions go towards college, retirement, and recreational (a very small amount) Try not to spend, I know that that will be hard.
  • Get into dancing, do Zumba, or Salsa anything. Paint, draw! You will feel better about yourself.
  • Here's the difference. TRANSFER! Go to a four year and get another degree, just stay close to home. It may even serve you better.
  • During your studies you can apply for self submitting websites, or after. Just don't burn yourself out. Stay motivated.
  • Once you are done, the world is yours. You can throw yourself into acting jobs or you can audition again.
  • If you audition again start planning after you have graduate. Don't do it during.
  • NEVER GIVE UP!!!!! This isn't a cop out.
Lastly, Jacquelyn its okay. You tried your best and I love you all the same. There are so many ways to get to where you want to be. Its going to be difficult but God is on your side. Remember God.

Love,
Jacquelyn Holder

Hello earthlings! I come in peace.

"Acting is always a challenge" - Robert Downey Jr.

Hi world,

I have no clue if anyone will read this, or if they should. I am going to be using this blog to create the world of my characters, and possibly vent out the angst that comes with being a teenager and an actor. LOOK FORWARD TO THOSE.

There will be the beginnings, middles, and never the ends of character building. This is going to be messy, possibly confusing, but I'm hoping fun to write and read. I'll be trying to write at least something art related at least once a week, but I tend to be lazy, so ya.

I would introduce myself now, but I think you will get that along the way.

Love,
Jacquelyn Allana Holder

P.S.
I think instead of writing to the massive void of the universe, in the future I'll be writing to myself. Well here we go, wish me luck.
